Looking to add GPU to the current build (i7 3770, 16GB, 120 GB SSD)
Planning to play all new games on 3 monitors 5760x1080 at 60 MHz not higher than that.
My board only supports CF, but for now looking for just one card which I will stick to, if it holds all 3 monitors with high FPS, more than just palyble FPS.

I was considering the GTX 780 TI, but thought maybe to start with radeon 290/290x and add another one on CF in the future.
I know that SLI is better than CF, but Eyefinity is better than Nvidia surround, so I'm abit confused.
Also, going SLI means I would have to change the Motherboard.

I would be glad to buy just the 780 TI and stay with it for a few years, I'm just not sure it will be sufficient for great FPS on 3 1080p displays for current games and 2/3 years to come (staying at the same 5760x1080p res).

What do you guys think?

Thanks!
basically your'e saying that the TI is an overkill for me both in performance and $$ terms?

Generally the 780 TI performs better than the 290X at 1080p, and above 1080p the 290X performs better.
With that in mind, the 290X is a good choice.

At that large of a resolution, it may not be wise to get a regular 290 without the X.

agreed, I play at 2560x1440, soon going 4k, and from all my research, the R9 290X with it's 4GB GDDR5 Vram, is a huge help of the Nvidia GTX 780/Ti cards. I have a R9 290X for reference, though the R9 290 is the best option over a R9 290X, it's basically comparing a GTX 780 to the Titan, leaving out the Vram factor, it's only clocked slightly less and has a few cores cut out, but with a whopping big price tag on it for not much better performance. Get the R9 290, or if you want best like me, get the R9 290X, won't disappoint.

Well that depends, the r9 290 will do the job for you at a reasonable price. Even if us use a gtx 780ti, maxing out games on Mutiple monitors will have its toll, but not saying it can't.

As of now a crossfire fire of r9 290 is best suggestion i can give you, if your willing for that bacause two gpu sharing the load will definitely be better at multiple monitors. As for a price standpoint rather than getting 2 gtx 780ti.

Hence my suggestion earlier to anticipate what the gtx 800 series might be capable of.

But the crossfire suggestion is only there for future game titles.

So its up to you, will you wait or will you decimate your gaming foes now?

I think that after summing up your insights on this issue, I'll get the 290 now! and maybe get anther 290 later or wait for 800 series.
I have a Corsair GS800 PSU, will it hold two 290's?

weirdly the last comment I can see is this

"Thanks!
basically your'e saying that the TI is an overkill for me both in performance and $$ terms?"

This seems to be happening to me regularly, according to my account, that's the last post?

It is not the last comment Unknownofprob, I allready have 3 monitors.

Thanks plaintuts, those 50 Watts will make a difference? or those PSU's you've mentioned have better current supply quality over my GS?

My account is having issues, anything that you mentioned with crossfire/SLI, I can't see.

50W isn't going to make a difference at all.

OK, I think I'll see how my rig handles one r9 290 in terms of power consumption/heat, and if all is well I'll add another 290 in CF.
Worst case I'll get a better PSU.

If you're going to run crossfire r9 290's or 290x's you NEED a new mobo. Your motherboard only has one PCIe 3.0 slot, the other one is only a PCIe 2.0 slot. This means that your second card will run exponentially slower and really won't be worth the money. So IF you are going to buy two cards, you might as well buy a new board, and another copy of windows for re-installation.

Thanks for pionting that out, I have tought about it but wasn't sure how much signficant it is, still two cards in diffrent pci bus speeds would be better than one card of the same specs.
Any recomendation for a new board with two pci 3.0 crossfire enabled?

BTW looking at a few years ahead, what would prevail:
Two 290s CF in pci 3.0 / pci 2.0 respectivly OR single nvidia 780 TI ??
