AMD's socket 754 was in use with budget rigs of 2006-2007 or so...; still slow no matter what you are doing with it.

Spending money to get a supported 13 year old CPU for some motherboard laying (or attempting to upgrade from same) around is just like money thrown into a wishing well...

One can find entire rigs 3x as fast from 2011 for $50 or so...
