Hi guys, recently, Prime95 has been giving me these errors within seconds of starting the Blend Torture Test. It says "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4 Hardware failure detected, consult stress.txt file".

However, running the Small FFTs Test yields normal results without any error. So I'm guessing that this is not a processor voltage problem? Temps are also normal, which ran at about 70+C at load.

So I thought my memory was at fault. (Kingston 2x8GB 2400 KHX24C11T3K2/16X)

Just yesterday I set my memory to XMP Profile 1 which clocks my sticks at 2400MHz, which is the default clock for my memory, though I had to tweak the voltage higher (1.76V), which was apparently normal for my memory sticks. In the past it was set to XMP Profile 2, clocking at 2133MHz (1.6V). I thought it was a problem with my RAM, so I ran Memtest86+, but my RAM passed the tests.

So right now I'm clueless about what could have caused the error. I didn't make any changes to my processor voltages recently, and the only thing I modified was my memory, but that doesn't seem to be the cause either. Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

Solution
Well, one way to find out is to back off that overclock a bit and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, then you can start to look elsewhere. CPU performance degrades over time, especially if kept at high temperatures or in potentially damaging environments.

Yes, I do. I'm OC'ing my Intel Core i5-4670K to 4.2GHz. The thing is, Prime95 has been running perfectly fine and stable on these OC settings for quite some time, so I'm not sure why this error would suddenly pop up out of the blue considering that I didn't change any settings.

So I went to my BIOS and loaded the default settings, and it was able to run Prime95 without throwing the error. However, the moment I load XMP Profile 1 without any processor OC'ing yet, it will return me the error on Prime95. So I loaded my OC profile into my BIOS once again, and tested without enabling XMP Profile 1 on my memory. Just as I expected, Prime95 was able to run without error. So I'm guessing that the problem lies not with my processor, but the memory. I'm not overclocking the memory, and it runs fine and stable on Memtest 86+. What should I do?

I've seen some people have issues with XMP before, so it may be worth it to set those memory settings manually instead of relying on the XMP profiles. That is, if your motherboard allows it, which I suspect it does.

Otherwise, it seems like running the CPU with the overclock settings and the memory at standard settings will be the way to go for you to avoid problems.
