Hi All.

For a birthday present I purchased a 1TB M.2 Samsung 860 EVO SSD for my son's PC which runs an Asrock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4 MB. The system won't recognise the SSD. I've updated the BIOS but still no luck.

Looking at the Asrock compatibility list I see that all the Samsung M.2 SSDs listed are PCIe whereas the 870 EVO is SATA3.

Is this the issue and why it seems incompatible?

Cheers.

Should not matter

The manual states both types are supported, (in theory anyways) :

ASRock Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4 & SATA3)

I also note that under the sata express heading :

If M2_1 is occupied by a SATA-type M.2 device, SATA3_0 and SATA3_1 will be disabled.
Support to be announced

Are the two ports occupied ?

No. Double checked that.

Working now. I unplugged all the other drives and rebooted. BIOS found the M.2. I then added each of the other drives one at a time and all is good.
