So it doesn't seem to officially support it based on the website. I can understand why it would not be officially supported because then they'd have to support ECC but would it work in the board without being on the officially supported list?

I only ask because i have a e3-1230 v5 which I'm either going to use in a build or sell. Selling it will just result in losing money so I rather just use it.

Starting with Skylake, Intel opted to remove support for its Xeon processors on consumer-oriented chipsets, Z270 for example, and instead created two new chipsets, the C232 and C236. The decision was linked to Intel's ability to keep up the supply of certain Intel Core CPU models.
Sure but that's more official support with a server-type chipset. that probably lets you use ECC as well. I'm wondering if the Z270 works just not officially advertised. They are the same sockets. Either way going to give it a try once my board and ram come in. Will share the results.
