Hey guys, I'm having trouble with my wireless network adapter for my desktop PC.

Important detail:
My desktop doesn't have an integrated WiFi card, so i bought a USB card instead. It is an old encore N150 with only 2.4 GHz band.

Here's my problem:

The other day I was gaming on my desktop rig and i suddenly started to have 5000 ping. This never happened before so i just proceeded with normal steps like restarting PC/router etc. After a while the problem wasn't fixing itself so dove deeper. After running some tests i managed to determine that my desktop was the problem. I ran speedtests with my laptop and my phone in the same room and they both got full/constant internet speeds. I even disconnected the wireless usb adapter and plugged it in my laptop, then ran a test and I still got the full speeds. But when I did this with my desktop it just gave me half the speed and a flaky ping.

Please take the following into consideration:
1. I already tried uninstalling the WiFi card drivers on the Desktop.
2. All the tests I ran were in the same room, same location exactly(to test for dead spot).
3. I ran these tests several times and all gave me the same results.

Honestly, I now have no idea of what I should do, so any help/ solutions are much appreciated.

Thanks:)

Did you try different USB ports on your desktop? Do other devices work okay in the USB ports?

Did you check the internal USB connections: e.g., to USB ports on the front panel.... All tight and snug?

Do you have an available slot to install a third party USB card/ports to add "new/additional" USB ports to your desktop. Maybe you could borrow a card from someone.

Hi Ralston18, yes I have tried all USB ports on my PC and i get the same result in all of them. Yes I also have checked all my USB connection, and I'm using all of the USB ports available on my PC so no extra usb options.

What other devices are using the USB ports? You can use USB hubs to increase the number of ports but that can be problematic...

Maybe your PC is not providing enough power to handle all of the USB ports being used.

Try some tests with only essential USB devices plugged in. If possible start with only the adapter....see if the problem continues. If not, start adding in additional USB "loads" one at at time. Try installing in different orders.

You may be able to solve a power related problem with a USB Hub having a separate power supply via a wall outlet. Instead of plugging all the USB devices into the PC, they would be plugged into the powered hub. Which in turn, may only use on USB port on the PC.

Eventually I found out that my ISP has a huge packet loss, this combined with a crappy WiFi card made it impossible to use internet on the Desktop PC, but now that the packet loss has gotten worse, every device is unusable...

Anyways, unless any of you have a magic solution to packet loss, I'll be closing this thread soon.

Thanks for the support everyone!
