Hello,can you tell me how to check an external portable disk drive for errors in Vista Basic? Thanks.

The vendor of the drive should have a downloadable scan utility.

Install HDTune, it has a disk scan utility that can scan the drive. http://www.hdtune.com/, the pro version I think has a 15 day trial.
