Setup is
I5 6400 4core
Biostar BT 250 BTC Pro
2X 8gig ram (2400)
Gtx 1050 + Gtx 630

Ok problem is in my old mobo think my cpu burnd 2 cores when i bought the new mobo windows wouldn't start with trial and error in bois i changed to use only 2 cores and windows boots fine but now and again i get a blue screen guessing its that time it recognize the other cores and try to use them and then dies.

Ok so the question is how do i get either to get all 4 cores to work or to get the system to stay only on the 2 cores and totaly forget the other cores will over clock work or is there a other way i can go.

Yes i know i should just buy a new cpu but don't have money now and where in lock down at the moment and its not a essential so not sell able

Any ideas

Thanks tech peeps

It's an i5-6400. If ever Intel dropped the ball and put out a lemon, that was it. The 6400 gets easily beaten in almost every area except all core heavy workloads beyond @ 80% usage, by the i3-6100. It's core speeds are terrible, honestly.

So if you have decided the cpu is bunk, and are firmly set on replacement, I'd suggest not replacing the cpu with another 6400 but opt for at least a 6500 or better yet, an i7-6700 to i7-7700 (or K version if applicable) instead. Core for core it's a considerable upgrade in performance.

And no, you cannot overclock a locked core cpu, you'd need an overclock unlocked Z series motherboard And a K series cpu like the 7600k or 7700k for such.
Did it on 2 mobo bt250 and the one now the pro same thing on both mobo so cant be pins on 2 cores works if i go 3 cores doesn't sort windows nor if i go 4 cores only works on 2 or 1 core

Thanks think my best option is to sell everthing and buy new like 9gen because getting 6 or 7 gen is like getting fresh water in the see but thanks for your input
