faulty mother board?

Recently I've been facing many problems with my computer. First, I started having disk read error on bootup that goes away after a few restarts. The error worsens and does not go away at all after a few days. I swapped old SATA cables with new ones and connected a new HDD. BIOS reads both of my old and new HDDs, but when I try to boot from them, it gives me the disk read error. Does this mean the motherboard is faulty?

SATA ports might be faulty, try switching the SATA ports. Also boot using only the new HDD, if you continue trying to boot with the old one it will continue to show disk read errors because it's still reading a bad drive (if it is bad).

Hi, thanks for your answer. Do you mean it is possible to switch the SATA ports without replacing the whole motherboard?

Your motherboard should have more than just 2 SATA ports. What I mean is switching between the ones on your motherboard.

Oh I get what you mean now. I have switched around with all 6 of the SATA ports on the motherboard and the problem persists.

You'll have to try booting using only the new HDD. That's the true test to see if it's the old drive or some other issue.

Alright, I've disconnected everything except the old HDD and now it boots to BIOS, and the old drive doesn't show up there.

If the new drive boots without errors then it's more likely that your old HDD is dying, and you'll want to backup data on it ASAP.
