My favorite race is usually the one I'm playing currently. I've played
pretty much everything except Dark Elves a lot. But if I had to choose
one race for all the rest of the games I played, I think I would pick
Bosmer. They are cute, personable and mobile.
What is your favorite race.

Absolutely ditto on Bosmer.

I'm particular towards Imperials. The persuasion ability I found very
useful my first time through the main storyline.

I'm partial to Bretons and Imperials.

Also the one I'm currently playing. Besides that, Khajiit. They make an
easier start with Wakims Game Improvements installed, and except that
no-boots/helmets they have no restrictions later on. Other than that,
they are just cute, especially with Slofs Better Beasts. Solstheim is a
big cold on the feet, though.
Currently working on a female Khajiit Nerevarine. I'm sure that will
royally piss those racist Dunmer slavers off.

I also like Bretons.

Playing a high elf autronarch makes an amazing difference in your
ability to cast spells.
You can cast, say Nighteye, as you walk along through the dark and then
still
have plenty of magic left to repeatdly cast, say, shockballs, when you
run into
something attacking you. When you start with ~270 magic (high elf mage
autronarch picking intellect starts about here), you hardly see the bar
move
down when you cast routine spells like Rightousness or Nighteye. Of
course
you don't see it go up much when you quaff a standard restore magic
potion,
either. However, you do need to start working on willpower early (to
counter
the vulnerability to magic) and to start making healing potions early
(to counter your
vulnerability to everything).

My favourite mod for spellcasting characters:

Magical Trinkets of Tamriel, Vol. III

Adds a ton of nifty things for mages. In my opinion quite balanced. It
can give very powerful advantages, but you need the skills for that or
dig through rather unfriendly places. Finally, Alteration 90 is useful
for something. :)

I personally find mages or mage-like characters more fun to play than
warriors. But I consider magic in Morrowind a bit too weak, compared to
Daggerfall. Above mod makes magic more interesting. However, I still
wouldn't survive a trip through Solstheim with an unarmored mage for
longer than 5 minutes if I hadn't that invisible spell...

A good way to counter some mage weaknesses is summoning critters. I
managed some of the tougher Suran Underworld fights by sending in a
couple of Golden Saints and other Daedra. Just keep them between you and
the big axe. :)

Khajiit for ever. I love cats! Installed a mod for a panther race. I dont
like the way hand-to-hand combat works for cats in morrowind. Need some
health damage from claws.

If it weren't for the no-boots restriction, I'd agree that Khajiits are one
of the best races. Argonians would be cool as well if it weren't for that
serious limitation. I've been playing a maxed-speed + BoBS character far
too long to be able to go back to the agonizingly slow plod of a default
character. Now I either choose The Steed as my birthsign, or make a point
of getting the BoBS as soon as humanly possible with any new character.
(Another reason I like Bretons - they're the only race that can wear BoBS
without having to get a Resist Magicka item to counter the blindness.)

I'm currently playing an Orc (new char, only level 3), also with Wakims game
improvements. The character is kinda fun, but I found a big problem that
really had me going for a while.

I had just used the Orc berserk ability in a fight, when I was out in the
wilderness. Won the fight and saved the game. A little while later my Orc
dropped dead. I thought something must have snuck up on me. I reloaded and
it happened again. And again. And again.

Figured out that the beserk ability had fortified my health by 74 points,
when my base health was 70 points. I took enough damage in the fight to
reduce me to less than 70 HP and used potions to heal up. However, healing
potions only take you to your actual maximum, not your fortified maximum. So
when the berserk wore off I took 74 points of damage and instantly died.

I was miles from anywere and didn't have any way to fix this. What I needed
was another fortify health of less than 70 points. Restore health couldn't
fix this. My only other save game was a long way back and I didn't want to
go that far back. Eventually I stopped playing, dug out the Scripting for
Dummies doco and worked out how to fix the problem via the console.

I thought this was a bug in Morrowind, but it turns out that Wakim's game
improvements had drastically increased the fortify health component of the
berserk ability, to balance the Orc race a bit. Now I know - if you are
playing an Orc and using Wakim's improvements, don't use berserk without
saving FIRST, unless your HP are over 100.
