FAX problem

Hi all,

I am sorry if my question is not suitable to be posted here.

My system is WIN2000 and with one modem card (ESS SuperLink-M
Data Fax modem) equipped inside. I use this modem with Winfax to send
faxes successfully for many years. Recently, I just can not use this
modem card to send out faxes nor to dial out. I delete it this device
and re-install again. It appears successfully and properly installed in
the COM3 of my system. I tested from Winfax and it said "FAX/modem is
class 1 compatible", in other word it is in good order, too. However,
when I use it to send out fax or proceed phone dialing, I can hear the
speaker is on with noisy signal sound as usual from Winfax or Phone
dialing program, but it just can not be connected to the line and gone
through successfully.

Is there any other way for me to check where is the problem? Please
help.

Turn the computer off. Disconnect the fax card from the phone wall jack.
Plug a standard Telco set into the female jack. Dial a number in the usual
way to confirm proper operation of the line. If OK., unplug the Telco set,
plug the fax card line in again. Check the plug/jack on the computer end.
You might change out the cable with a new or known-good cable. Turn the
computer on. When fully started, try using the fax again.

Please instruct.
