The machine that is running the FAX service MUST have a FAX Modem installed.

why you want to start fax service?!
you want share internet between 2 pc by fax service?!!!!!
1- if you dont have a configured fax/modem on win 2k pro you can't start fax
service! for configuring fax service goto control panel and then open fax
icon
and select "open fax service manage...." under "advanced options" tab
then configure your fax modem to send or receive fax
for starting fax service go to "services" into admin. tools and start it
or in cmd (command prompt) type "net start fax"

2-and my question is this that do you have network adapter and do you
configure them carefully with an invalid ip address
(like 192.168.0.x / mask:255.255.255.0) and connect them to each other with
a crossover-ethernet cable?!
if you do these steps it's simple, just check the "internet connection
sharing" check box under sharing tab in your dial up connection properties.

but i suggest you use win 2k pro as server in stead of win xp and use win xp
as client , i think it's more reasonable.

also you can use a simple cache server like WinRoute for sharing internet
between several computers

Kind Regards,
Farzad Hayati.
