FDB is suppose to run quieter and also run's cooler. I would go with that over Ball Bearing any day.

they have different versions?
i thought that all the ata-133 drives in the d740x line had the fluid bearings...
anyone know for sure, because i checked the maxtor site, and could not find anything related to there being two different types...and how do you differentiate between them if there is a difference?

It's hard to say if it has the FDB or not, just because you will need to know the whole model.

If you goto <A HREF="http://www.maxtor.com/products/DiamondMax/DiamondMaxPlus/default.htm#D740X" target="_new"><font color=blue>this</font color=blue></A> link it will give you the information.

OMG, i am really dumb.....
i have been looking at that page, and not reading it........HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
taht was pretty stupid of me...
now i have to check to see if my drive is in that list..i sure hope it is....DAMN...j2...not l2...
mxt6l040j2 to be exact....
oh well...but this thing is still quiet as hell, so i can only imagine how quiet the fluid bearing ones are...
maybe i will save up and get one of the fluid ones, and throw this one in my 233 to use as storage..hehe
btw...the only difference btwn the fluid bearings and the ball bearings is less heat and quieter right?
