I may be picking up one of these NEC FE991SB 19" CRT monitors on Monday. I'm just wondering if any of you have any opinions on its performance before I pick it up. The two lines bugged me a little on the APG but I think I can get used to them. If anyone thinks this is a mistake on my part can you offer me any suggestions? I'd like the monitor to have a black casing, totally flat, good quality with both video graphics and text. Thanks.

I have this monitor. Infact, if you look back in the posts within the CRT area here, you'll see a few comments/questions of my own about this very monitor.

I had a run in with a bad ...er "run" of these monitors. After I received my third shipment and did a little more looking into the problems I was having, everything was really great. It's a great monitor.

The superbright feature is really nice. Text is crisp (in NON-SB modes) and dvd/games/animation is really clean and colorful.

Again, I posted here before that I was having a problem witha little Yellowing in the lower left hand of each monitor I had. I think that the monitor is a little weak in the shielding department (my own conclusion:) which is why it had the "yellowing" I speak of. I saw that the shielding is an issue because I have a room with three computers in it (also three monitors) and when one of these monitors is turned on or the degausing feature is depressed, I get a "wave" across my screen. That wouldn't be a shock to me at all if the other monitors weren't at least 6 or 8 feet away. 3, maybe, 2 yah!...but 6 or 8. Come on.

That's the only weak point I see.

My monitor now sits all by itself and it's as crisp as it can be. No-mo-yellow.

Maybe someone else can chime in for you to help you decide.

I'm happy with it, for sure.

Hope it works out for you.
