They just care about cheap (with no Chinese backdoors, only NSA approved ones) chips from Taiwan.
US concern for Taiwan is certainly about more than its exports. The US cares a lot about China's sphere of influence, and its attempts to control the South China Sea.

It's also not irrelevant that Taiwan is a democracy, though current US foreign policy doesn't suggest much regard for such things.

Very true. Although at least in this statement, it's what they are focusing on.
