First if this is not the right place to post this, whoops on my part (I’m new)

Hello folks, I've used this site a lot over the years and figured I should finally post in it. Basically starting a new build and decided I’m at the point I need to get some feedback beyond face to face sources so as to better finalize my decisions for the stuff I should get. With this build I’m not trying to build something that is a “insert purpose of computer here” computer. I need it to do everything but not be centered on one purpose.

My last serious computer build was in late 2009, and it was mostly geared towards a sort of all-in-one computer solution (as this one will be too). It’s showing its age and can’t be upgraded to the point I need/want it to be. Nothing in this build is set in stone yet, but I'd prefer to keep things in perspective of this list in terms of performance/price/functionality and quality respectively to each component. Basically I don't want to have to do this again for another 5 years.

OS
As long as I can get the drivers working, I’ll be using everything you can think of (in one way or another). Would mostly be using 7 Enterprise (VB .NET stuff) but I’ll probably get a copy of 8.1 pro/enterprise too as it’s about the only OS I don’t have lol.

Software
A lot

Misc cards/add on’s
I’ll find some lol

Motherboard
ASRock: Z97 Extream9
Why? : It would replace a few cards in using now and has enough slots to fulfill my needs now and most likely later without extra tacked on junk (well… M.2 and thunder bolt I guess maybe, but I never know what I will find useful).

CPU
Intel: i7-4770K
Why? : It’s a very popular, well received CPU.

Heat sink
Scythe: SCKTT-1000 (this is a little big but looks like it should keep things cool)
Suggestions??? It don’t matter as long as it’s quite, but I’d prefer not getting into the water cooled area (no stupid led fans ether lmao)

Ram
Mushkin: Enhanced redlin 2x4 GB (997166R)
Why? : It’s Mushkin and has cool looking red saw tooth like fins lol. Honestly, I don't think I need more. I usually don’t do multiple things that are RAM heavy. I got two more slots so no big deal if I need more.

Video card (Will be bought later on more than likely)
SEVGA 04G-2981-KR GeForce GTX 980
Or
(Dual) SAPPHIRE 100374OCL Radeon R9 285 (this is the most likely choice I’m going to make)
Why? : I’m not big into gaming like I used to be but with a new build comes new interest in getting back into the fantasy land gaming.

Hard drive (Platter; bulk storage, but heavy use and or everything)
Western Digital: Black (WD1003FZEX) at least 3 to start with.
Why?: Though about all SSD 840 pro or 850 pro, but they are just not worth the cost in the total amount I’d want/need (maybe like a 250~500 for the main OS). Honestly these new rev’s should not pose any bottlenecks (at least not often).

Power supply
Antec TP-650C (this one looks ok)
Uhhh… really it don’t matter as long as its top vent, quiet and compliant with the above mentioned stuff (will be custom terminating all connections, reusing what I can)

Computer case
Suggestions??? Again it doesn’t matter as long as it lets everything breathe well and is not full of pazazz (I’m no stranger to custom ventilation/mounting in a case). I like my old case, but the old computer is still going to be pulling its weight and has been severely modified, so that’s not a good option lol.

So… yeah that’s where I’m at.

I would get the 4790K by now.

The r9 285 sounds good but is weaker than the r9 280 which often is cheaper or go for the r9 280X.You also could look for a decent deal on the r9 290.When i see what you spend on the pc can you not go up to a gtx 970?

About the psu .. no plans for crossfire/sli? If not should the 650watt be fine.

Lets just say cost is an issue, but im flexible to an extent lol. Thought about 4790k but that's still a "ether one is a good choice" situation for me anyway. Also thought along the same lines on graphics. It's going to be one nVidia card or two Radeon cards more than likely as the final choice. Im also looking to get hardware the has the most current mainstream features attributes for its given class for my needs/wants, that played a role to some extent when chosing aswell.

I guess it wont hurt to add that I intend use 3 23" 1920x1080 60Hz+ monitors and 120Hz flat screen tv (or similar) but not necessarily for gaming, and not necessarily all at once. The graphics card, motherboard and optical drive part of this build is still under investigation if I'm honest.
