Hello!
Second post i think... Anyway, Just about 20 mins ago i annoying fell of my bike while collecting my stuff. Was going under a underpass that was typically covered in water and my bike slipped (Was borrowing a friends bike, not my own so i did not know the traction...) and i fell over. Typically my flash drive and SSD fell out of my pocket and my External HDD fell out of my backpack and fell in the giant puddle. I'm not to bothered about the flash drive because since its flash memory i know it could take a beating. In fact after inserting it about 4 times now my linux laptop detected it, and i ran fsck to make sure its ok. I took my hardrive's enclosure off and wrapped the case and drive in a towel. My SSD is also in another towel. My SSD was in a anti-static bag but it ripped and so the SSD is wet, however i think SSD's can also take a beating because its also flash memory.

My main question is about my HDD... I know HDD,s hate shock with a passion, plus hate getting wet and also hate anything other than sitting on your desk.... So hence im gonna ask what i should do, Its 2TB with quite a few OS's on it plus half of my Windows profile, so i dont wanna lose anything if possible. (1.6TB used :/)

Things:
External HDD: WD My Passwort Ultra 2TB
USB Flash Drive: Sandisk Extreme usb 3.0 (Love it with a passion, bit scratched from the fall now)
SSD: Sandisk Extreme 2 SSD

I have not done anything to my HHD or SSD yet, due to i dont wanna screw anything up.
Pity i fell over, otherwhys none of this would of happened :/

Thanks for any help!

Solution

Dry it as much as possible with towels/absorbant cloths. Then place the SSD and HDD inside a bag of uncooked rice. Leave it for about a week then plug it into a computer as an external device to see if they work. Patience is your friend.

NB. SSD's are usually pretty well sealed however I wouldn't take the risk of shorting it out.

Solution

Its dry on the outside. Is it dry on the inside? I'd say leave it for a few days in the aforementioned bag of rice.

Looks so, the contacts look fine where the Sate cable connects, so should it be fine?

Ok, makes sense! gonna follow your instructions. Thanks alot for the help.
