I have a few more questions about Paladin. We play offline only. Our
last character was the Barbarian which we only used in the combat mode
or what ever the terminology for that is; we used no auras with him.
With our Paladin we would also like to make him a hand to hand or
combat. We are at level 35. We have 22 points in Zeal, two of which is
added by equipment, 7 points in Smite, and 12 in Sacrifice, those also
have points added by equipment.
It was suggested in an earlier thread to add 20 points in Fanaticism
after we got 20 points in Zeal. I see that this is an Offensive Aura and
would have to be chosen to be active where the shield is now. Is the
shield still giving us protection if we go this route, and I assume that
I would have to right mouse click to make Fanaticism work when we
encounter enemies? Like I said we have never used Auras before and we
made it all the way through the Hell level with our Barbarian. I would
also assume that the Defensive auras are passive? We do have some with
points in them but I'm not sure how they got there.
What about adding 20 points in Smite? This has been helpful when we're
surrounded knocking the monsters back when we get in trouble. With the
Barbarian we could just jump over them when we had a problem.
This is what we have so far.
Both sword and shield are from the rune list, sword is Honor, shield is
Ancient Pledge
Strength 109
Dexterity 97
Vitality 65
Energy 31
Thanks

As long as your shield is equip ( u see it on him) the shield is doing
its job.
Auras are needed, and they act passiely as long as its active.
(sic) I would have to right mouse click to make Fanaticism work when we

Auras isnt an attack mode
After ur auras, add to Zeal by adding points to Sacrifice, it gives
about 12% more damage to Zeal(synergy)

Are you sure your name is Karen, and not Smeagol/Golem? jk, sorry. ;-)

I assume you're playing your character with a friend/so?

You're ignoring the Palidins number one advantage.

A Barbarian does not have Auras, that is the unique ability of the Paladin
class. A Barbarian can cast a Warcry, whick has a duration, so that is
similar, but different. The Aura is something that is activated, and as long
as that Aura is 'up' its special powers/benefits are in effect.

Your character has two actions they are able to use, activated by the right
and left mouse buttons. The little windows at the bottom right and left show
the current skill for each, and can be used to select active skills, or to
set 'hotkeys'. Instead of changing the active right/left mouse skill
manually through the little windows, you can change them with a hotkey, a
key set for that particular skill. To set hotkeys, open the right or left
skill window, then hover your cursor over the skill and press a designated
key on your keyboard to 'set' that key to that skill. You can then set
hotkeys for skills on both the right and left side, but a skill or a key can
only be set once. At start, the default hotkeys are f1-f8. You can add
another 8 (I believe), and/or completely change the hotkeys) in the
Options/Configure Controls menus.

Normally a character can only use one skill at a time. But a Paladin is
different with his Aura. A Paladin can have an Aura active on his right side
while using a Combat skill on their left button. In fact this is exactly how
you should play it. You'll see that the skills your Paladin can hotkey on
their right and left side are different. The left side should be your combat
side and the right your aura side.

Auras are all passive in a way, you don't have to do anything to make them
work once activated. But they are active, so they're not really a passive in
game terms (like Dodge, Evade, Ironskin, Natural Resists, etc.).

Don't put any more points into Energy. Enough Strenght to use your
equipment. Enough Dexterity so you can hit and to maintain good blocking
(get the skill Holy Shield, and a shield with high and fast blocking, 75% is
max). Rest into Vitality.

As for skills, you need points in Auras. Fanaticism works good with Zeal, so
do Holy Shock, Holy Fire and Holy Freeze with 'synergies'. Almost all the
Auras are good undr certain circumstances, so one point in almost all auras
is a common build.

Play your character and enjoy the fun of learning new things. Making some
mistakes is half the fun.

Thanks for the information and advice. Yes I play with a friend, I know
it sounds silly one of us does the number keys to keep us alive and the
other does the fighting.
