I have a few questions regarding a repair for my PC.

  • 1. My mobo which is Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H died on me and I'm getting a replacement from Gigabyte which is not the same but an equivalent GA-Z77X-UD3H. Will I be able to reuse my windows 7 oem even though it's not the same mobo but a replacement/equivalent.

    2. Is there a way i can retrieve my files from my computer because i have alot of files/music/pictures that i dont want to lose and i have a feeling i'm going to have to reformat my HDD. It's my only PC in the house and it's not working at the moment so cant backup anything to a flash drive. Can i just boot up my pc once it has the new mobo, backup my files then reinstall windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thnx.

A reinstall may not be required. Very similar motherboards. Try it and see if it boots.
If it doesn't, I suggest booting form a Linux LiveCD, and copying your critical files elsewhere.

Activation - it will probably deactivate upon seeing the new motherboard. In case of a broken motherboard and replacement, they will almost certainly reactivate it.
Try the online activation. If that fails, almost certainly the phone robot will work. If that doesn't, there should be a number to call a human.
