So, I finally got around to building a new desktop(yuss!). That being the case, I'm not going to be using my laptop very much at all. I don't plan on selling it, as I might possible have use for it at some point in the future, like travel or something.

Is there anything important to know when storing a laptop long term? I would assume removing the battery would be a good practice, but what else? Also, can long term inactivity damage it in some way?

Thank you for any advise you can provide!

Solution
Keep the laptop indoors in a climate controlled environment; don't throw into an outside storage unit. As for the battery, keep it at least charged 40% as that's the optimal range for less stress on the battery for long-term storage.
