fifa 13 fails to start : "unhandled exception has occured in your application

I have fifa 13 on pc and have been playing it for years. However, when i tried to start the game today it failed to start and showed an error message.
This message read " unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If u click continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue"
When i click continue nothing happens.
Could anyone give advice on how to fix this problem

Uninstall and reinstall the game.

i havent touched any of the settings. The last time i even went into an overclocking program was maybe a month ago and i didn't touch anything so for this message to come up today is pretty strange .

i tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the game but that didnt work either. 🙁
