I've been contemplating doing my first-ever build, and I've currently found myself stuck primarily on three things: The power supply, the case, and the motherboard.
My confusion stems mainly from the lack of experience, since I have no intuitive sense of the difference it would make to me to go with a 500W power supply versus a 400W, or whatever. Same thing with motherboards: There just seem to be so many different permutations that it can be hard to wrap your head around things even when you have a general idea of what you want.
In any event, the focus of this post is the case. To put things simply, I'm not sure how to figure out what exactly it is that I need in the first place. I've looked and seen many different cases that are certainly very appealing, but then I wonder if they are just too much (not in terms of price, but in terms of offering features that I don't really need).
Basically, I'm going for a fairly simple build. A couple of HDs, a graphics card (nothing cutting-edge, but still pretty good), a non-overclocked CPU. Maybe, just maybe, after things go well here, I might consider fiddling with overclocking things, but that's not high on my to-do list.
I don't mind paying a bit for a good-quality case, I just want to make sure that whatever I buy isn't over-the-top for my needs, yet not so cheap that I worry about longevity or any quality concerns.
I feel like I've rambled on a bit as the is a somewhat intimidating process given all the available choices. Any advice/guidance anyone could provide, be it on a case or on anything else would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Edit:
Just for the sake of comparison, two cases I've looked at that have piqued my interest are the Antec p182 and the Antec 900. I've looked at plenty of others, but those stuck out in my head for whatever reason.
