File: boot\\BCD

Yesterday my dell latitude with vista ran out of charge while in Hibernate mode. When I tried to restart it with the power cord I got the "windows failed to start" message, but I do not have the instalation disc. F8 for safe mode does not work. Here's the question, though:

It also says File: \boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000014c
Info: An error occurred while attempting o read the boot configuration data.

Can anyone explain this to me, or whether there is a way to get my computer working?

Thanks!

There should be a factory recovery partition on the hard drive (it's hidden when in Windows). For a Dell Latitude you usually have to press <Ctrl> + <F11> as soon as you power up the PC. This should invoke the Dell Recovery.

Hopefully you're the sensible type who keeps backups of their data, because Dell Recovery will wipe the hard drive.
