file exceeds file system size limit (write to disk) error

I am trying to downloading a 23 gib file & it keeps coming up saying "file exceeds filesystem size limit (write to disk)" ... I am running Windows 7 64 bit & my format is already NTFS & I am still coming up with this error.

I have already used a flash drive formatted to NTFS for smaller files & it works just fine.

Sounds to me you're not using NTFS, but FAT32. You 100% certain? In Explorer, Right click on the drive letter you're saving to (e.g. C:\) and select Properties to see the file system for that drive. Doubel check you are indeed saving to the correct (NTFS) drive.

As long as your not saving to the root directory, it should be fine. NTFS has a file size limit of 16 terabytes but not in the root folder. If your saving to the flash drive, it may be the flash drive's fault. Try saving to hard disk.

I am saving to my hard drive for this file because of the size. I have tried saving it on my desktop, in my documents, ect & still get the same problem.

I am 110% sure i am running NTFS, I use uTorrent software to download my items. & I use google chrome

I've had very similar problems using Windows Explorer to copy huge files. I've taken to using a freebie called Teracopy for large files.

I am downloading files by Torrents using uTorrent & I use google chrome.

I'm having the same problem with a 29 Gb file copying from one NTFS drive to another. Apparently having file compression enabled or a badly fragmented drive can cause this error.
