Hi,

I am using Office 2016

When I open File Explorer, and browse any directory contains MS Office documents like DOC, PPT, EXCEL, it get crashed like:

but if I open MS Word and then open and browse the same directory, I can open it fine.

How to solve this issue?

What form of office do you have? Is this something that just started? What happened to your PC prior to this occurring? Do a search for "File types" and "Choose default app by file type" and see that DOC, PPT, EXCEL are properly synced with the appropriate Office app. Here is a MS link that might help https://support.office.com/en-us/ar...-program-1e9c0ad9-34c8-4440-a42e-d30186b29ed6 If all else fails deleting and reinstalling office would likely solve your problem.

For me enable the Preview in the Explorer solved the problem.

That solved it for me.

Well, really, it was NOT using details pane. So either using Preview Pane (which turns of the details pane in favor of the preview pane) or no right-side pane at all fixed it for me. After searching for 4 hours.

For me File Explorer Hung forcing me to click X then close application.

Other file extensions worked perfectly: .wmv, .jpg, .txt, .rtf, .pdf, even .doc, .xls, .ppt.

Only ones that caused explorer to hang were: .docx, .xlsx, .pptx.

Clicking on them, right clicking on them, or double clicking (to open) them.

And only with Windows 10 File Explorer details pane turned on.

Windows version 1909 with current updates as of 12/13/2020.

Office 365 subscription with Office 2019 updated as of 12/13/2020.
