I've had this problem pop up in Win10 for as far back as I can remember.

I tried searching it but words like "file", "explorer" or even "hangs" are all way to common. 🙁

Thanks

I would start by checking to make sure there is plenty of free disk space. Then I would download a tool like crystaldiskinfo.exe and check the drives smart info to check the drive health.

I can think of a bunch of cases that would cause this to fail.
check for error in the actual drive first.

Ah for god sake's. I submitted a post at least a couple of days ago but it apparently got eaten by the internet gods. Why does that only happen to the long posts? The ones with specs and crap?

For the moment, I have to put this particular problem on hold, as the other problem I was experiencing, which
USAFRet had also commented on, weeks ago, before a life thing came up on my end, has sort of answered (generally speaking) my questions about that topic itself. That was regarding Macrium Reflect giving me random, erroneous (or not) error messages upon full backup, that I had a bad cluster, despite other programs & chkdsk saying everything was fine on my SSD C drive. I'll be moving back there for the moment, as apparently, my MFT is corrupted.

This, along with the other data I had collected but hadn't had a chance to do anything about, tells me that it is very, very likely that my M.2 really wants to retire. Badly.

Damn. gg wp life...

Yep. I actually just finished my novel on that.

Somehow I figured you would remember. You must have a fortress for a memory.
