Hello,

I have a strange problem. So, my dad was working on a doc file on his usb and when he tried to save it Word gave him "somekind" of message. He clicked ok and the file went missing.

Now, I have no idea what the message was and neither does he since he doesn't understand English.

I tried data recovery tools but neither found the file.

Do any of you have an idea what went wrong?

Thanks in advance.

He means that important files should be backed up (by the user) and you should restore the backup copy. A backup copy should be stored on another device.

Check for an unsaved copy on the harddrive:
https://www.howtogeek.com/256717/how-to-recover-an-unsaved-microsoft-office-file/

Next see if words temporary copy is still on the hdd.
  • C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\MicrosoftWord. (or Microsoft\Word)
  • C:Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp.
The AppData folder is typically hidden so you will need to change the option in File Explorer by clicking "Organize" in the upper left and selecting "Folder and Search Options". Switch to the "View" tab and check that "View hidden and System files" is ON.

Change the option back when you are done.
