It does not matter if I am copying a file between any of my hdd's, or to or from USB drives or between hdd and usb,, every time it will copy it at normal speed for the 90-98% of the file, for example say a 700MB file will take 2-3 seconds, but that last couple percent will take minutes some times.(Windows 7)

Hey there, Gantec.

If you think you might have a problem with any of your hard drives, the first thing you should do - is to backup any important data which you might have on them. After that go ahead and download the HDDs (respective) manufacturers' diagnostics tool and test the drives, to see if any errors or bad sectors pop-up. You should also make a full scan with your anti-virus program with updated database. Do the same with an anti-malware program as well.
Please let me know what are the results of the tests so that we can figure out how to proceed.

Hope that helps.

The most common symptom for that is data fragmentation. the computer is unable to write down the file unto your hard drive into one continuous stream as it has to keep looking for gaps to fill out with the data its copying. The buffer usually speeds up the process, making it look seamless, but when the time comes to flush the buffer there is a slight delay.

The more full is your hard drive, the longer it will take.

And mr. Boogieman,

While I am not saying that you are wrong, I am just curious, do you have generic answer written down somewhere in your notepad which you just copy-paste to anyone who has problems with his drive?
