So, first of all, some context:
I'm currently working on a few short films; of which I keep all of the files and assets on my main, 4TB Seagate external hard drive. Both short films are for a class I am taking, and if I ever wish to work on anything outside of class, I have to move my drive around a lot from computer to computer pretty much every day.
So I was working on some graphics yesterday in class. I don't quite finish, so I take the drive home with me to finish the scenes over the weekend. However, as soon as I plugged my drive into my home PC, and tried opening the files, it started giving me error messages whenever I tried to open one of those files.
Unfortunately, I wasn't really aware of what was happening, so I hit "Ok" every time the error popped up and thought nothing of it, and as I result, I do not remember what it said exactly. All I remember of the error I saw was something along the lines of: "There was an error opening the files because they were either created on a different network, or were moved."
Then, once this error message popped up for every file I tried to open, I tried backing out and closing the window. Once re-opened, I discovered that all of those files were now gone.
I then proceeded to scour the internet for a solution, to no avail...
Things that I tried:
-chkdsk (no problems on the drive were found)
-I scanned the disk with ESET (no threats or bad files found)
-I tried un-hiding hidden and support files on my PC (some files were hidden, but not the ones I was looking for)
-I checked both the recycle bin on my computer, and the one on my Seagate drive
-I tried ejecting the drive and re-connecting it (I only did this once, and I didn't try it again afterwards)
I don't know why it's sayin that those files were "created on another network." Sure, it was another computer, but those specific files were not TRANSFERRED, they were created ON the drive, so there shouldn't be any issues like this, right? I couldn't find any other post about external drives having this kind of problem. Any advice on recovery options or just any information on what happened is greatly appreciated.
