Question Files hidden on WD external drive, can't fix

I can no longer see the files on my external 1TB drive. When I right click and see properties it's showing that they are still there, 2gb of used space. I tried unclicking "hidden files" on view but this is useless, does not work. Also tried an MBAM and CHCDSK scan but that also didn't come up with anything. No errors in CHCDSK. I know I can probably recover with software but anything faster I could try? Thanks, any help much appreciated.

Does the same happen when you plug the external drive to another system? CHKDSK won't being back your files, if you're curious what it actually does. It only scans the drive for errors but doesn't recover hidden files.

What OS are you on?

I'm running Windows 10. Thanks, tried it on my laptop also, did not work.

It will take forever to recover the files. I use a program called Recuva which will do the trick but takes to long.

If you had started this a week ago when you asked, either it would be done by now, or have failed completely.
