Files Sharing / Home Network help pls

Hi

I get my internet via wireless from my bosses computer (XP) which is connected via ethernet to a Virgin super hub (cable).

I have two desktops and one laptop all running win 7. Plus there is another desktop two floors down (XP).

What I'd like to be able to do is set up a network so that only my computers, laptop and the desktop downstairs can file share. I do not want the main computer to access these files or the computers. Is there a way of doing this and if so how?

I have tried setting up a home network but it always seems to use the main computer as the home network access point so that this computer can see my computers. Hope that makes sense!

I'm sure there must be a simple answer but don't know what it is! Help please.

Thanks. Looking at the article it looks as if I need to connect a cable from my machines to the second router. Also that this router is connected via a cable to the first router.

If this is the case I wouldn't be able to do this as it would mean having a huge cable running from one floor of the house to another. My Boss would not agree to that!

Is this correct or could I use wireless somehow?

It's possible to use a wireless bridge, but it will reduce your bandwidth. The other option if you have good electrical circuitry is a pair of power line adapters -- the 500mbps Zyxels achieve around 80mbps on a good circuit.

Just out of curiosity, if I used these would it affect other users wireless reception/use?

Also can you have one in different rooms by this I mean one in the kitchen (where we have little to none wi-fi due to thick walls and metal thing (cannot remember correct name) which supports the ceiling? And in the downstairs room where again poor reception?

No, they would not affect wireless reception. You can use more than a pair, like three or four as needed, one near the router and the others where you need network connections.
