Files to Drive

(error code -50) I have this code when I'm trying to transfer a file or folder to a Toshiba Canvio Basics 1TB Hard Drive

What utility are you using to copy or move said folders and files?

The Toshiba USB 3 Drive is plugged directly into my iMac running El Capitan (10.11.6). It work for 1 transfer only (using drag and drop) then failed to take any more or allow me to delete what was already there. The mac Disk Utility could not do anything with it, I could not even reformat the drive. It is going back to Amazon.
