Hi guys,

I've finally got a decent idea on the upgrade on my existing system that initially consisted of;
- P5Q Pro motherboard
- ATI HD 4850 1GB
- Q8200

4GB of RAM, broken Antec 900 case and a decent new 600W ModXstream-Pr0 PSU (that doesn't need to be upgraded) I also have a 1.5TB of storage and windows 7 already here.

I have £450 budget.

So far for this upgrade I have a new motherboard;
- ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0 AM3+ AMD 990X + SB950 6 x SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS. (£78) Newegg.uk

- Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600. ( £154 ) Newegg.uk

- CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 (£41.99) Newegg.uk

EVGA 02G-P4-3753-KR G-SYNC Support GeForce GTX 750 Ti Superclocked 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card (£90.99) Newegg.uk

I wanted peoples advice mostly on a case, as although the Antec 900 is a great case and lasted me this long, for me its too large, a bit too heavy/clunky and doesn't fit so well into my room. Just need to shave 2 inches or so off the length, no too many lights and a bit quieter. But those are very specific asks.

I was thinking about maybe the mini ATX cases (cubes), but I know very little about them really, especially the mobo's needed for them etc etc.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

You do realize that your motherboard is an AMD motherboard for socket AM3+?

Look for a socket LGA1150 motherboard, also you might want to go with an i5-4440 and spend some more money on the GPU.

Or you might aswell give me your budget so i can build you a pc 😉

Also you aren't really upgrading, you are more or less building a PC from scratch. And re-using some old parts like the HDD and PSU. Another thing, the 4GB of RAM you already have is DDR2 and your new RAM is DDR3, so you can't mix them together it just won't fit. (physically)

One last thing, the RAM you have added is SO-DIMM which are meant for laptops and don't fit into a regular desktop motherboard.

Solution
Ah yes I just realised my mistake, lots of mixing about! The Intel mobo I looked at was;

ASUS H97I-PLUS LGA 1150 Intel H97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard (£66)

Thanks for the advice on the graphics card/ processor, haha yea its more of a new build than a upgrade I suppose. To do with the 4GB of PREVIOUS RAM, I won't be putting that into the new PC, just using the new 2x4GB stuff.

I Did not realise that about the RAM, again thanks. My budget is around £400-ish.
New RAM; G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL ( £43)

With that new processor £122 + £43 + £66 + £120 (budget for GPU) leaving £100 for the case. But if you have better than all means 😉

Better cooling, better mobo, better airflow, faster stock GPU, GPu has better cooling (And colors). Slightly cheaper 😀

Appreciate the Inclusion Shamar Holtz, But Sandstorm 3000 and Eximo's build is the one I'm going for.

Thanks everyone for your help, and avoiding a catastrophe with the RAM 😛
