At first I wanted the Q17, but you know how that turned out. Then I started leaning torwards a NEC1760V since it had lowest price of the fast new models. Samsung was just too expensive to even consider. Then I started reading all the reviews on NewEgg on the Hitachi. Seems that everyone absolutely loved it. But then I ran into a message board where they had 14 pages devoted to the question: Is the Viewsonic VP171b a good monitor. Normally it costs 500-600 dollars, but I found it for 439 with free shipping. The deal is over, but if you email them, they might give you an exception. http://www.xpbargains.com/index.php/send_deal/11381

Here's the other messageboard: http://hardforums.com/showthread.php?s=c9f4e3488d2679f7cdd8f38e93c217e3&threadid=625882

My argument against that lcd is the viewing angles are pretty bad. Used to own a TFT7020 and the up down was 140º and it was noticeable, even if I turned it at weird angles.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening.

Update: At work (right now I'm programming a system for placing real time stock data into a db) I use a Dell FP1800. It's got 160º viewing angles, and it looks perty good viewing head on. There is a slight shift in color, but only a little more compared to my 17" CRT, so it's not really much of a worry- I'd say definetly get something w/ 160º if you want to be happy.
