Despite the obvious nuisances... and I think they were meant to be
exactly what they are.... nuisances, hindrances to an easy success... my
Marine finally arrives in hell. Yeah, I've played it slow. About an
hour at a time. Once a week. Maybe twice. Remembering to save after
important points would be good. I wouldn't have had to do all the
teleporters twice
Immersion. There is a certain mindset and patience needed for me to
enter a very immersed state with this game. Takes a little preperation.
It takes willing myself to think and act as if I were actually there.
What would I really do? I'm new to the station, don't know the layout.
Lots of exploring to do, lots of supplies to find and a few little jobs
to do. I just don't hurry at all. After clearing an area of baddies
when first entering, there are usually lots of quiet spots. Plenty of
time to catch up on reading and all. And, there are always signs that
baddies are on the way. Always. Oh, and the lighting? Looks like it's
supposed to be this way. Harsh in some areas, and very dark in others.
That the flashlight dispells the darkness completely where you shine it
says the game is supposed to be like this. So, I haven't bothered with
'fixing' it. Pretty damn spooky this way.
I've enjoyed exploring every little nook and cranny the whole way.
Watching all the vid disks, listening to all the logs, and reading every
email in every PDA. Looking at all the 'signs' left scattered
throughout the entire installation. While there are similarities in
every section (how could there not be, it's a modular station!), there
are plenty of differences. Even in the carnage left behind.
Carnage. To the well equipped Marine, the baddies are just little speed
bumps 😉 And after the bit of fireworks, have a good look at whatever
poor unfortunates are lying around. Listen close, for the whispers of
the dead. Even people who rape and torture give far more respect to
Human and Living than the demons do. The word *violate* takes on
greater depth than ever before. Do we even have a word to convey the
filthiness these things do to Life? To all that we cherish or even take
for granted...these things of filthiness violate utterly. Unborn
children. Gravid women. Yep, I got a job to do alright. Stop the
damned things. They'll do to all of Earth what they did here on Mars.
I think that's worth my life. Like I even have a choice? Ha!
Leaving Delta Labs for Hell. I'd used the soul cube on the first of two
big n nasties, then the rl and a bfg shot for the other. These were
supposed to be tough or something? Well, on with the rest of the
show... and I remembered to Save the game after collecting the little
bit of guns n ammo on the landing pad
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Hell I go oh oh!
McG.
