Is it just me or is 40X CD-Rs and 12X CD-RWs practically impossible to find?

Since my Lite-on drive has SMART-BURN (a feature that allows it to test the optical integrity of a CD before burning), I just bought the highest quality 32X CD-Rs and 10X CD-RWs and I'll just record them at 40X and 12X. Is any one else having a hard time finding high-speed media for their new burners?

Aren't the 40x CD writers kind of new? I think it won't take long before there's 40x CDR media out. But, I guess getting the highest quality 32x CDRs is going to be the best you can do.

It would be nice if CD writer manufacturers and CD media manufacturers can synchronize when their products will come out. But, I guess they do this because they would want to get rid of the 32x media so they can get as much profit as possible.

Visit <A HREF="http://www.cdfreaks.com" target="_new">http://www.cdfreaks.com</A> and <A HREF="http://www.cdrlabs.com" target="_new">http://www.cdrlabs.com</A>. Lots of other CD/DVD expert sites, too.

Taiwan long ago moved from 24x and 32x to 40x and 48x. The manufacturing cost has not gone up sharply - it is virtually the same.

Some 32x CD-Rs can be burned at 40x iMation makes very high quality CD-Rs You can try some of theirs.

I had some of their 16x discs that burnt at 32x They use good plastic and metal (don't delaminate as easily as generic crap, or "smart pack" brands), and add extra dye for more protection.

RW discs on the other hand, are specially formatted. You'll never be able to write a 10x at 12x with rewriteables (or any other speed above their listing)

Actually, AFAIK, any "High Speed" CD-RW can be burnt a 12X. I just bought some 4X-10X Verbatim CD-RWs and it works perfectly at 12X.

No, some HS CD-RW discs are not as good as those from Verbatim and Ricoh. Some 10x-rated CD-RWs work at 8x only.

I guess any "high quality High Speed" CD-RW can be burnt at 12x.

My burner won't let me burn some of my old CDs at 40X because it automatically scans the surface when I put the media in, so it knows the maximum the CD can handle ahead of time.

I had some old 2x cdrs that burned at 12x with no problems...i guess it depends on the media.

I love Lite-On! Cheap yet ADVANCED!

Lite-On probably has the most sophisticated buffer-underrun protection, by preventing them ahead of time, 90% of the time. It can even detect a scratched CD ahead of time and burn at 2 or 4X! It still does have conventional buffer-underrun protection during burning, just in case, though.

I must agree with you on this, my 24x10x40 Litey beats the other 4 burners I have had hands down (Acer,Sony Ricoh,Plex)

Money talks, so they say, but mine only says
