Currently showing on late night NZ TV. Slightly more interesting than
Buffy, but not more intersting than the shows about Sin and Depravity that
are on at the same time.

Actually I enjoyed Mutant X a lot more than Firefly. IMHO Joss really
dropped the ball on this one.

I don't know a thing about Mutant X, but Firefly was a
very good show.

Depends on how much of Firefly you watched. The first, oh, 4 shows or so
are mostly very "eh". It was only the later ones where it started to really
take off. The last 2-3 before Fox pulled it were incredibly good.

Hell, the scene where Mal was in the sword duel, and the constant lowering
of his personal standards was better stuff than most shows can come up with
in a whole season.

Fox also nuked "Andy Richter Controls the Universe" and "John Doe" that
season, and I haven't quite forgiven them yet.

If your idea of very good is being worse than bad british TV porn, then
yeah.

I'll second this. Mutant X was bad. I could only stomach one
episode. I bought the entire Firefly series...

They also screened them out of order, which probably didn't help.

This I did not know, but sounds typical.

So, you're not a fan of Traveller, then?

The filmed two-hour pilot ("Serenity"), which introduced the various
characters, and showed why everyone was on the Serenity, was aired
*last*... At the very last minute, Joss was told that the network had
declined to air a two-hour pilot, and that one in particular, so he
was told that, in order for the series to air at all, he had to write
a brand new, one-hour pilot in a single weekend, and also had to
change Mal Reynolds' character to be funnier, and less amoral. The
result, the aired premiere ("Train Job"), was IMO the show's weakest
episode, and is at least partially responsible for many people's bad
opinions of the show as a whole.

Beyond that, several later episodes were also aired out of order, and
three of what I consider the best episodes of the show weren't aired
at all.

Hey Now! Bennie Hill was hilarious!

That's a different thing entirely. When UKTV started up here it ran Benny
Hill from the first episode. The first series shows what a brilliant actor
and talented writer he was, but it does get progressively sadder over the
years.

I was actually thinking more of the Sin Cities style of program.
