Well it was bound to happen.

With all the old arcade monitors I've looked at, I juiced myself looking at
a computer monitor at the office today. Made the mistake of squeezing the
rubber cap for the HV connector with my left hand while trying to slide the
HV probe under with my right,

ZZAAPPPP

Feels like I've been punched in the chest.

Been there done that. Hurts pretty bad sometimes. Especially when you
hear the buzzing in your ears while your being fried.

Never discharge a monitor using two hands.

Hey, Chris is in the club! ;-)

I know I've told this story before, but what the hell-- I got bit
discharging a 25" in a Virtua Racing upright with a screwdriver and wire
since I was too lazy to go find the HV probe... To add insult to injury,
since the monitor was still in the cabinet when I got zapped the reflex
action smashed my arm into the chassis/cabinet drawing some pretty good
blood. Then (and I'm writing this off to being disoriented from the first
zap ;-) I decided I'd use my left (non-bleeding) hand to finish the job
("hey, it's got to be discharged *now*") and unhooked the anode cup with my
fingers. *ZAP* Got my *left* hand repeating the same spastic jerk
backwards, hitting the same chassis and plywood and making a *matching*
bloody mess to go with the first one.

So, like Steve said-- "never discharge a monitor using two hands". (Although
I think he meant at the *same* time... ;-)

I got zapped by a chassis the other day, trying to pry the anode lose with a
screwdriver. ZZZZAP. Most of it had already discharged though, so my arm
just went a little numb. It was pretty funny, actually.

Try that with a 35 inch Sony running at around 33KV :)

I feel lucky. We should make up T-shirts.

Yeah, that would be the reason for the rule "Always keep one hand in your
pocket"

Actually, I figured out what specificly I did wrong -- other than useing two
hands. I squeezed the cap with my thumb OVER where I was sticking in the
probe, instead of on either SIDE of the probe.

OK, I am Never, Never, Never, Never, Never doing that again. Time to come
up with new and interesting mistakes.
