Hey guys, i just wanted to know if this build I'm about to do in 2 weeks will be good enough for gaming. My budget is $ 770 and i want to play games on my 48 inch HDTV.I'm getting a AMD FX 4100 with a Radeon HD 6850, NO overclocking will be done on this build or two GPUs.I'm getting the FX 4100 because it's cheap and fast and later this year i want to upgrade to the new fixed versions of the AMD Bulldozer CPU's AMD will release later this year.

So, will this build I'm about to get be good enough to get 30 to 60 fps on games(Crysis 2 Battlefield 3 Arma 2 ect.) with high/ultra settings for at least a year until AMD releases the fixed Dozers ?

Here are the components:

AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4100WMGUSBX

Well I'm not trying to go ultra or super high settings on every game but i do want to run at a good high setting with good fps, no meduim or low.Can the Radeon 6850 do that cause that's all I'm really looking for at the moment ? Or do i need a 6950 ? I'm trying to go with a Radeon.

6850 overclocks like a Boss from what I have seen and in some games it achieves GTX 570 performance when OCed on the Msi Cyclone model.

FX-4100 will be your downfall...
965BE - 980BE is worth the extra coin..

I hope not but i will keep all options on the table until i put this together but the FX just doesn't seem that bad for what I'm gonna be doing with it and how long i will have it.I wish i would have just got the 965BE last year.

AMD isn't up to par in the desktop gaming world. Then why am I getting between 70 and 120 in ultra on BF3? Why do I average 100+ in Dirt3 and Crysis 2 plays like the old Cysis on my machine. If you put my machine up against whatever intel machine it will feel the same exact unless you do your stupid benchmarks...

Stop comparing Hyundai With BMW and start comparing Cadillac with BMW... IF this guy can grab a X4 970 with a 6950, he will be averaging almost 40fps in every game... Pretty good for AMD

You really have to learn to spot and ignore the fanboys, they won't even acknowledge the other side's accomplishments, kinda like Apple zealots.

I can't really recommend the FX line of CPU's though, their performance is sketchy most of the time. In games it doesn't matter much, you really have to monkey with the settings to make them unplayable. Otherwise for the money their not really the best in most cases.

You'll still be able to play all your games on the fx4100, although I'd recommend going with the 6100 if possible. Get a 965 or 970BE if their available, you'd get better overall performance but your on a limited budget.

I totally agree with you... Stay away from the FX line... hit up the Phenom II 970, 1000t be series, or find a way to go with intel...

I just did a build with the FX 4100, 8GB of AMD Branded Patriot Memory, and a 6850 GPU running on a cheap Gigabyte 740 board. I have it oc'd to 4.2 on stock air and am running Win7 Pro. Have had NO problems. Skyrim, MW3, Witcher 2 all run great and the build was dirt cheap.

Nothing wrong with that at all... Good build... Just curious your res and settings on those games.... Skyrim I see the only problem as it is very cpu bound... The others anything can run...
