Hi, I'm working on my first build, I've read over quite a few of the topics here related to my price range and I think I've slimmed it down to what the best parts are for what I want.

Purpose: Gaming, general use (I know the i7 2600k is overkill)
Price range $1500-$2000
Parts not required: Keyboard, mouse, monitor
Country: Canada
Preferred sites: NCIX, Memoryexpress, Newegg.

So here is what I have so far, people feel free to suggest any other parts that would be better suited for this build, I am pretty stuck on the i7 aspect and do not want to downgrade to the i5, although would consider something different in the i7 family.

CPU $310
Intel i7 2600k

Aftermarket CPU cooler $30
Coolermaster Hyper 212 PLUS RR-b10

RAM $115
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

HARD DRIVE $150
Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb

CASE $170
NZXT Switch 810 - CA-SW810-B1 Black Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

SSD $200 reg (don`t pay more than $150)
Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2CCA 2.5" 128GB SATA III

GPU $500
ASUS GTX680-2GD5 GeForce GTX 680 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card (THESE are quite hard to get a hold of apparently, so I am open to switching)

PSU -$170
PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W High Performance 80PLUS Silver

MOTHERBOARD $170
Asus Sabertooth Z77 LGA 1155 intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6GB,

SOUNDCARD $75-100
ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 Channels PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card

OPTICAL DR (blu ray) $110 (hate spending money on this, I don't watch DVDs)
LITE-ON 12X BD-R 2X BD-RE 16X DVD+R 12X DVD-RAM 8X BD-ROM 8MB

Total: $1975

Also, do I need like, an interface card..Or something along those lines, to connect to to the internet or...*newb*

If you have an SSD, a Caviar Black is not needed. Get a Caviar Blue/Green or Seagate. For MOBO, another one you can get is the ASRock Extreme4 Gen3 Z77. It is $36 cheaper. If you want to fully utilize IB, get the i7-3770k. It will be around the same price. If you're only using one GPU for gaming, downgrade to a 650W Unit.

Thanks for the info on the interface card + Hard drive. I may end up getting a larger HD for the same price if I don't follow that route. =)

I don't mind paying a bit extra for the Sabertooth board, it seems like a good quality build.

Also I may just have to wait for the Ivy Bridge series to come out, along with what the graphics card department has in store in the next few weeks!

Other than that though, is there anything anyone would suggest swapping out for superior build quality / performance??

You have made an excilent choice of parts .

The only thing i regret that the total comes to 2000 without sli.

Also an i5 is all you need try i5 3570k which will be more that enough.

that psu is a steal its cost is 140 at newegg. You will need that much if you do sli but if not then 550w is all you needed.

Also the onboard sound is great its creative xifi iii and is more that enough for 2.1 speakers.

If you have a costly 7.1 setup then spound card can improve the sound.

Other than that you are good to go

good luck
