First Build, can someone look over it for me?

Hello everyone! I'm just about to start building my first PC for gaming and on the cheap. This is what I've got lined up, can someone look over the specs and give me some advice if they have any? Thanks!

WinFast NF4K8AC-RS-1.0 MoBo. Pci-E, 939, RAID, SATA, Onboard audio.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+

I Said IF He Had The $$, Yes His System IS Quite Nice, Its Just Something For Him To Consider, Its Better Than My First "Gaming System"..... My First Gaming System Was A Athlon MP 1.6GHz, Running Windows 2000, w/1GB Of DDR333 And A Nvidia GeforceFX 5800 "Dustbuster" w/It, Scorthcing (Literally Ran 160F) ,128MB Of DDR2 And Phycotic 10,000RPM Fan w/Huge Copper Heat-Pipe System, But It Was Super Fast At The Latest Dx8 Games, Loved It

And I Bet I Spent $3,000.00 On It At The Time (This Was Early 2003) And I Was Using The Same 16:9 Wide-Screen 17.4" LCD Im Using Now, LOL

I would put in at least a gig of ram, but if you can't afford that, bare minimum 512 MB, not 256 MB. Prozac26, he might have 2 hard drives so he can use RAID with them.

Unfortunetely cant afford 2GB of RAM just yet, but it's something i'll deffo do in the future.

I'll stick to 2 hard drives so i can do raid, I hear it can really improve performance!

You could save a few bucks that you could spend elsewhere by buying Wintec memory instead of the Crucial. Wintec is good stuff, and we have been pairing it with Foxconn boards with excellent results. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820161627

Unless your going to run those HD's in a raid array I suggest you get 1 200gb D instead.

I take the CPU is socket 939? If so I would have got a 144/146 Opteron instead. You get all the advantages of having a server processor but at desktop prices and performance! Not to mention it's the best CPU for overclocking (as long as you can get it with the right stepping).

RAID 0 will increase the performance of those drives, but all your data will be lost if one drive goes out, but if you don't have anything important to save then it works. If you are worried about data loss, you could use RAID 1, but there will be two problems. 1. You will only have 80 gigs with RAID 1. instead of 160 because the data is mirrored on both drives. 2. performance is increased for reading but not as much as RAID 0, but write performace will be the same as a single drive system.

BTW if you didn't know RAID 0 is not really a true RAID. The R in RAID stands for Redundent and RAID 0 provides no redundecy, it is for speed only.

But he should get an Opteron over a Athlon 64 that is if he has/getting a 939 MB.

Personally I would use RAID 0 because I have nothing important on my computer, I just use it for games and e-mail. If a drive goes out then I am out nothing important really, and I normally reinstall Windows about every 3 months. If you are wondering why I reistall windows so much, I am a networker and I am always downloading new programs to try out, and I like to just start with a clean slate when I am done, just the way I am I guess.
