Hi there,

This is my first time attempting to build a PC. I do have a budget of around 800- 900 dollars but I would like to spend as little as possible. I mainly use my computer for games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 2 (I don't really care about graphics, I do set them all to minimum for better performance). I am not sure if all the parts in my build will be necessary for what I need. Is there anything that you would change in this build that would lower the cost but still make this PC decent for my needs?

Thank you very much!

Here is my build:

I don't know about a price drop. Maybe on the gpu, doubtful on the cpu. I was amazed to see the 4690k prices drop as much as they have. I've watched cpu chip price indexes for amd and intel both over the past couple of years, typical pattern for intel is an introduction price, then often a chip goes up $10 or so and stays solid month in and month out. Seeing the 4690k drop from $240 to $212 or $208 on and off between black fri and now is pretty impressive. If you didn't want to overclock the cpu, you could go with an i5 4460 and save maybe $40 with current pricing according to pcpartpicker.

If you didn't want to overclock in the future or sli in the future, you could pair an h97 motherboard with the 4460 (h97 doesn't have sli or the...
I would choose a better power supply. The corsair cx builder line aren't the best for quality parts.
Something like this - the wattage is overkill but it's an awesome deal for a great psu.

Or one of these

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-hcg620m

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seasonic-power-supply-m12ii620bronze

They're only around $10 or so more than the one you selected which is a tier 3 psu, the above are all tier 2a, and they're semi to fully modular. The rest of the build looks pretty good and with the 280x video card I think you'll find you can turn your graphics settings up and still get good frame rates and smooth play with much much better visuals than just 'minimum' settings. It's a pretty strong card, enjoy it.

You could always build a lesser performing pc and save a few dollars. The problem is newer games are requiring more and more horsepower. If you try and save a few dollars now, you'll quickly be spending it again and likely more trying to upgrade sooner than later. It's up to you.

What FPS will I be getting in games with this build though? What parts would you downgrade to make this build less expensive but still decent?
Thank you for replying :)

If you only want to play the games you listed no

I'm guessing you don't won't to over clock your CPU? If so get a none K series is like the 4430/4670 and a h97 chip set mother board
You could also drop your GPU a touch to a 280 if your sure you won't be playing too many demanding games like crisis or bf4
I would take synphul advice and spend a little more on a better PSU through

Edit:
Here is some fps stats from a bunch of games on a 280x

Making those 2 changes would drop your cost by about $55 with current sales and give you similar performance but you would be giving up the option to overclock in the future and not sure what the compatibility would be with upcoming broadwell if that's even a concern to you.

Also moving to the r9 270x would drop the price another $90.

This set of benchmarks (pay attention to the screen resolutions since they do multiple resolutions on the same cards) may help show you the difference and if saving $90 is worth it to you.
