Last week I finished building a new gaming machine for my daughter and I, and am blown away at the performance over my almost 10 year old AMD X2 machine. Will post the specs below. I'm a gaming sim guy, and have been able to run BeamNG's Drive, Spintires & The Sims 3 (daughter) at ~max settings without issue. Am hold off on pushing all settings to full before it gets a good run-in. I imagine it'll handle it just fine. Have also gotten GTA 4 to run at 1920x1080 at 144hz (compatible monitor) with a few start-up tweaks...should mention this was when the daughter wasn't around. Again, haven't pushed the settings to full yet, have them at about 50% each for now. What a beast.

Turns out PC gaming isn't dead, how about that!

Corsair 200R Case (Swiss cheese of cases, lots of holes but keeps things cool. Looks good)
Intel i7-4790 (oem fan, non-OC version)
MSI Gaming 7 (no OC, I'm too old for that, looks amazing...stared at it for a good 10 mins)
Gigabyte 770oc 4gb (Just, Wow.)
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (made sure to enable XMB on the main board, very pretty)
SAMSUNG 840 Pro SSD 256 GB (Fast!, plenty of space for games w/o 2nd drive)
ASUS VG248QE (What a display, still getting the settings just right)

Just wanted to throw this out as a positive home build, no issues so far. Ended up installing Win 8 twice because my original license was purchased back when they were offering them for ~$40... Turns out those were upgrade licenses. Had to purchase a full 8.1 license. Aside from that, things have been pretty great. Good luck to others with their builds, hope it goes as smoothly. :)

Solution
with the intel stock cooler the legs may weaken from heat and age. if the temp goes up and the fan on the cpu cooler is working check that the cooler legs are still locked in. I fine the coolers that use back plates stay on better over time.
