Yeah, if you're buying in a month or two, spend these two months looking through other people's builds and learning what you can, then you'll be more educated about your own build.

That's what I wish I had done :-/

Alright, here's what I'll start off with for a good build

CPU/Mobo Combo: i5-760/ASUS P7P55D-E Pro Great cpu, great mobo enough said about that

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.492249

Ram/PSU: 4 Gb (2x2Gb) G-Skill Ripjaw DDR3 1600/Corsair 850 W PSU. This is a freakin sweat deal, good reliable ram, great PSU. PSU is more than you need, but gives you plenty of room for your "maybe" OCing and "maybe" SLI or Crossfire.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.492823

GPU: XFX Radeon 5850, best card I could fit it w/o going but a few bucks over 1000$ flexibility here especially if you want to consider purchasing a new monitor with your 1000-1200 budget. ( I would recommend the new monitor, any 1000$ build is gonna be way more than your 1440x900 monitor can handle)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150477

HDD: Samsung spinpoint f3, best performance for the price by quite a bit. Comes with a 15$ off promo code...For anyone else reading this yo, f3's for 60$ on Newegg!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150477

Case: Antec 900. You seem to really want a great sweet looking case, and well, this is one for sure! But again a lot of flexibility here for changes.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

Dvd: LG OEM dvd burner

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136168

Total with promo code on newegg: 1021.73 including shipping

plus 40$ in mail in rebates if you're into that!

Leaves you with plenty left over until 1200$ to buy yourself a nice monitor (1920x1080ish)

If you're planning on buying after 2 months, I'd advise you to hold on to your cash just a little longer, 'coz prices will fall. AMD's gonna come out with their Bulldozer early next year & if it's any good, Intel will be forced to reduce their prices - Not to mention the current AM3 platform prices.

I would say if you're not getting a new monitor then I would probably, see if you can use an old GPU if you have any left overs, or just buy a really cheap one, because I'm pretty sure you can get a GPU <100$ that will work just fine with that resolution. And begin saving for a Radeon 6000 series and new monitor as your next upgrade.

If you have a separate budget for a newer better monitor then sure you can get a better GPU. But like was said, if you're waiting for 1-2 months you'll be better off for at least waiting until the Radeon 6000 series comes out.

It all depends, there's of coarse always something new coming out, but the 6000 series is so close that at this point if you can wait to build your rig, it's worth it to wait. If you think your computer can get you say to the end of the year (won't be that long, but just give yourself some wiggle room) then I would just wait at this point.

I've got absolutely no clue, but there was a thread recently saying that they're rumored to come out in October, so if that's true, then next month.

ATI has been very hush hush about the 6000 series. There hasn't been any official information released, but some benchmarks (of possibly questionable authenticity) have shown up online.

There will be a decent increase in overall performance so that the new top single GPU card (replacement for the HD 5870) bests the nVidia Geforce GTX 480.

The top GPU from ATI is the 5970 & not the 5870. Prolly not the best value though, especially @ anything under 1920 X 1080.

The 5970 is the best card from ATI, but it's a dual GPU solution (it's two HD 5870s combined onto one card). That's why nVidia still brags about having the fastest GPU even though the 5970 is obviously the fastest card. ATI is aiming to produce a single GPU card that can top the performance of GTX 480 while still being much more efficient.
