Hey Everyone,

I am about to help my son with a build but this is the first one I have done in 10 years. He wants a gaming rig and has saved up all his money with some help from me so we are looking to keep it to around 1k. He also wants it to look cool as well he is very into social media. Below is the build that we are thinking. Please convince me to change components or let me know if you think this is good.

Much appreciated.

While the 3600X isn't much faster than the 3600, it does come with a better HSF. This SSD is cheaper and faster than the one you had selected. This PSU is of higher quality since your was the bottom of the line EVGA 80+ Gold.

Thank you very much for the input. I am have read and seen pretty bad reviews about the Asus TUF GPU so am concerned about this. I am thinking about the XFX THICC III instead.

While the THICC III made improvements on the cooler compared to the THICC II, it's still not actually that good of a cooler despite its bulk. The III simply put band-aids over bullet-holes - the width-oriented heatsink fins combined with an enclosed shroud that looks like it was designed for length-oriented cooling fins is just a lousy design.

Thank you very much for the input. I like some of your suggestions, but for the GPU I have read and seen better results from the 3700XT over the 1660. Also I have access to a 144Hz monitor.

Thank you again.
