First Build in 8 Years - Please Pick Apart

This will be my first build in almost eight years. My last build still works, but is now turning into the computer my young kids use. I want to build a new system that accomplishes a few things - First and foremost it will be a dual monitor business machine for when the wife and I work from home. But I also like to do some occasional gaming. Also, I'd rather overbuild it a bit so it is more capable over time.

I have a total budget of $1000 - $1100. The prices below are before all of Newegg's discount codes, which bring it down to almost exactly $1000.

My biggest questions here are motherboard and video card. I am just shooting in the dark on those. But please, by all means, pick it to pieces. I am looking to order tomorrow night if at all possible.

Any particular reason your going with AMD? Here is a build with Intel Sandybridge i5 (more powerful then the amd phenom II you have and a very good GPU, better HDD, very good SSD, etc

Total pre-tax/Shipping: ~$880

With all of your additionals... keyboard, mouse wireless card, etc it ends up being closer to $1300.. However you can drop the SSD and save $90 and then for basically $200 (counting tax and shipping) your getting more power and a better setup with more future proofing.

Would there be a significant difference in the AMD and Intel's performance? What about in the future, could six cores verse four be beneficial?

I am asking because I just don't know anything about todays processors.

+1 lol, I find myself constantly recommending the F3 but I recently purchased one for my brother to replace 3TB worth of failing HDDs (4) so I feel that my recommendation comes with some validation :3

Personally i found comfort with the SeaGate Barracuda

Is this going to be a gaming build? For 1080p? If so the 6770 will be weak at that resolution. I would consider the 6850/gtx 460 the bare minimum for 1080p.

It is really going to be an all things to all people build. We need it for work (VPN/dual monitors), I like to place CS:S and I am sure other games will crop up that I will want to play - likely sports games. Also have kids so will probably do some video editing on it too.

ETA: The monitors do support 1080P.

as for breaking down ive been using my f3 500gb for almost 3 years with 0 problems.

I dont think its going anywhere but the barracuda is a solid drive.. I feel as if the f3 wins by a hair though
