First Build: Monitor not connecting properly

This is my first computer build and I am using the following components:

Intel 4790k i7 processor
512gb samsung evo 850 SSD
2x8gb ram sticks from rip jaws
corsair cx 430m power supply
geforce gt 610 video card
MSI H81M-P33 mini atx motherboard
Forgot what the case is but everything fits/works with it

Please nobody say anything about the bad video card with good processor, I'm not using this computer for gaming.

Anyways so the particular motherboard I bought comes with an extremely bad manual and I couldn't find anything good online, I've attached basically everything and hooked them up to the motherboard/power supply and when I turn on the power the fans start spinning and lights turn on and everything starts to work.

Problem is the monitor/getting that to work. I tried hooking it up with VGA and also HDMI and neither seems to work it just says analog on the monitor and I've tried pressing keys etc.

I'm 99% sure I did something wrong but honestly have no idea what, any ideas?

Also can anybody double check for me that the parts are all compatible?

Are you plugging the monitor into the motherboard or the GPU?

I tried the motherboard with VGA and the GPU with VGA and HDMI (motherboard doesn't have HDMI port) and same thing happened.

When you try turning the pc one do the fans spin up or does nothing happen at all?
Have you tried unplugging the gpu and connecting the motherboard to the screen?

All the fans (CPU fan, GPU fan, and external fan) start spinning and the LED turns on, and yea I've tried that

Maybe your motherboard need a bios uldate to run the 4790k. You can check what bios version you have on the mobo itself and compare it to what support the 4790k on gigabytes site for that mobo.

On a side not why did you buy an overclockable cpu witha b 51mobo?
