Okay to start off this is my first pc build and what I am looking for is a budget gaming rig. I am leaning towards an AMD Phenom II X4 build. Would it be better to go with the FX 4100 instead? I have not heard very good things about the FX series so I am hesitant about going the FX route. Here is a list of the components I have picked out so far.

Case: CM Haf 912

Mobo: ASUS M4A88T-M

CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 960T Zosma

For a powers supply I have picked out a corsair CX500 bundled with two sticks of 4gb Corsair Vengeance. This being my first build, I am confused as to which would be a better setup. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

phenom 2 x4 955 is best (in amd) for gaming in budget,
so instead of 960t go for 955
or to get max performance go for phenom 2 x4 980 (little expensive)

fx 4100 is junk for gaming at these price

Phenom II x4 955BE is best for gaming on a budget.

955BE > 960t > 955

Zosma is fine too if you can't find 955BE, there's no major difference.

K version Llano is also possible depending on the budget and discrete GPU used.

black edition does not add performance at stock settings

and it is obvious to go for a be

960t is equalent to 945
and 955 is wining majority of test from 1075t (unlocked 960t will become 1075t) here

Wow thanks for all of the replies. I wasnt expecting so much help so soon. It looks like 955BE are in very short supply right now so I might have to to go with the 960T. Since hard drives are so expensive recently, what do people think about the re-certified drives on newegg? Again, thanks for all of the help.

P.S. thanks mousemonkey for moving the thread.
