Hello, this is my first time posting and I was wondering if anybody knows if all of these components will work with each other...

I`ve never built a PC before and I`ve spent the last 2-3 days trying to decide on actually getting a custom build by ibuypower but when I was about to finish the order I noticed duty fees and did some googling and found that UPS charges way too much.

If these questions have already been answered then I apologize in advance as I am new here. Thanks

I see a few issues here, just quickly, you only have one stick of RAM, you should get 2 to utilise dual channel. Unless you're a big audiophile or doing music production you wont need a sound card.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply... just from not understanding the RAM dual channel fact, I can see I'm very noob at this.

Approximate Purchase Date: By Feb. 11 (local store is having a few sales)

Budget Range: 1000 CAD before shipping and 13% tax (rebate is just bonus and not something I really pay attention to)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming to 3d to everyday things (I'm content with playing new games on med-high settings @ 1920x1080 as long as I can get high framerates, but will also need to have 2 monitors on sometimes but not for gaming)

Are you buying a monitor: No (Currently have 2. One of them has 2 hdmi + vga, the other has hdmi + vga + dvi)

Parts to Upgrade: Everything for a working gaming desktop

Do you need to buy OS: Yes (not too familiar with Microsoft's policies)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg.ca , tigerdirect.ca , canadacomputers.com (local store)

Location: Ontario, Canada

Parts Preferences: Intel or AMD is fine as long as it's good for gaming and multitasking

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: Yes but a year or 2 down the road (I hope)

Your Monitor Resolution: Both run at 1920x1080

Additional Comments: I would like a good amount of cooling so I don't have to worry about overheating problems (doesn't have to be liquid)

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: Want to run MMO smoothly and do some 3d

I forgot to mention that Bestbuy and Futureshop are also local stores but they usually have much higher prices on everything.

I also forgot to mention that I chose those options in my first post at ibuypower and there were no messages about incompatibility but I need to be sure since this is my first time attempting to build and haven't used a desktop in about 10 years or so.

Thanks a lot for the help... budget is a little flexible as long as the desktop can last a few years. This laptop I have now is a Core 2 Duo and I've been using it 2 months shy of 5 years.

If this includes the sales tax it should be in the right ball park, if not, we can make some tweaks, drop off the SSD maybe.

If you don't want the SSD thats fine, can drop that.

The AMD CPU won't work with that motherboard. Also the 3570k is a much better CPU.

The HDD, yup, thats a fine change.

The graphics card, you have chosen a 7870 where as i listed the 7870 XT, a confusing name but it is based on the 7950. It sits between the 7870 and 7950 and can overclock to 7950 levels. Hence it's higher price tag.

PSU, the corsair CX series isn't particularly great, not bad enough for me to say definitely don't get it but that XFX unit is more reliable. If you want corsair look for something in the AX, HX or TX series, in that order. Or the 750w XFX unit.

DVD drive, no issue with that.

Is it possible to downgrade the 3570 for something better priced while still being better than the AMD FX-8320?

I don't plan on doing any overclocking as it seems too much work with keep components cooled properly and whatnot.

With the MoBo you suggested I can crossfire the 7870 XT or would I need a better PSU than the one you suggested first time also?

Based on your considerations i've made some changes. The fact that you want to xfire in future keeps the cost of the mobo up, if you decided you didnt want to xfire you could prob save 60-70 dollars there.

Can it run fine on this mobo?

Can you recommend the AMD Radeon HD 7870 - 2GB - HIS IceQ (for crossfire too)? The reason I'm asking is it's quieter/cooler and not as pricey.

I will have to get the Cool Master HAF 922 ATX at Direct for just under $100.

Antec is more reliable when it comes to power supplies? I don't mind paying more if it means I won't fry my components.

The Ram should run fine but it will probably automatically underclock to 1600mhz, but that's fine.

That Antec model is a good one yes, there are others, feel free to list some from the places your buying and i can advise you if there ok or not.

I already included the 3470 in the build as you mentioned not wanting to overclock, no point getting the 3570 non k version as for the performance gain it's very negligible over the 3470.

In terms of the 7870 yes i can recommend some but obviously it's not as powerful as the 7950 or 7870 XT.

Have a look at the Sapphire and XFX 7870's, they are quality and good price.

Yes, I also may have to look into lowering all componets without possible crossfire in future. I've never built a pc before and I'm thinking maybe I should just get parts less than 750 after taxes and shipping just so that if I screw up this build it wouldn't be a lot of money wasted.

I was almost ready to order this http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229380 cyberpowerpc for 750 (before taxes and shipping) but I wasn't sure how many fans I'd need and I was afraid of all the negative reviews I've read about cyberpowerpc.

I've looked into Dell's Alienware X51 but it's a bit too pricey for me.

I've spent a good 3-4 days on trying to figure what is the best build and most of those days on ibuypower's site lol

And still I'm really not any closer to getting a desktop to take advantage of the 2 monitors I have (1 I just bought 2 days ago)

There's nothing particularly wrong with Alienware or ibuypower it's just it's well over priced for what you get and generally either get a CPU that's overkill, a GPU that's under done or the both.

If you wanted to try something cheaper without xfire in the future you may prefer something like this

It will be able to yes. I understand lots of people can be wary when they see a low wattage on a PSU. Power draw for some components can often be overstated.

As long as you are mindful of the components and choose a good solid PSU you can generally get by on less wattage than you first think.

There's 1 front mounted intake and 1 rear mounted exhaust. There's space for 5 additional 120 or 140mm fans and space for another 3 120mm fans. That's according to the website.

Personally i only see 6 additional spaces, 2 on the side, 2 on top, 1 in the bottom and 1 in the front.
