Hey there, PC nub here. My only PC gaming experience is with a pretty decent MSI laptop and I'll be building something with https://www.cclonline.com/ sometime within the next two months for about £1600-ish, as they're the cheapest I can find in the UK that still seem reliable and I don't trust myself to build my first rig manually.

I'll be playing at 1440p on an already-purchased 144hz monitor, and ideally I'd like to be at at least 100fps most of the time with highest/near-highest settings (I know that'll become harder after next-gen consoles release, which is fine). I'm pretty sure this rig will generally be OK for me, but wanted to double check on a few things.

  • Will I need case fans? I think the SPEC-06 has some already but I might be interested in overclocking my GPU a bit. Plus I heard this case doesn't have great airflow, but I'd rather stick with it if possible because it's a challenge for me to find a case I'm actually satisfied with, looks-wise.
  • I'm assuming the stock cooler for the 3700x is enough?
  • The wifi card is OK and I won't need an additional sound card, right? Don't know anything about those to be honest. I could get an X470 AORUS Gaming 5 WiFi board but it costs another £65. Someone else I know recommended a x570, but CCL don't seem to have any.
  • I'll mostly use this for gaming and general browsing, with some development stuff with Unity on the side (which currently makes my laptop a bit slow), maybe the occasional stream or two as well. Would a 2600/2600x be good enough for this or should I stick with the 3700x? I don't mind paying extra for a quality CPU, I only ask because I'd rather not go higher than £1650 or so.

Specs are currently:
  • Corsair Carbide SPEC-06 RGB Mid Tower Case - White
  • Gigabyte X470 AORUS Ultra Gaming AMD Motherboard
  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6GHz Octa Core CPU
  • HyperX Predator 16GB (2x 8GB) 3200MHz DDR4 RAM
  • MSI GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER GAMING X TRIO 8GB ("pre-overclocked edition")
  • Seagate BarraCuda 2TB SATA III 3.5" Hard Drive
  • Crucial MX500 2TB 2.5" SATA III SSD
  • EVGA 650 GQ 650W Modular 80+ Gold PSU
  • TP-Link TL-WN881ND 300Mbps PCI Express WiFi
Thanks in advance.

Thanks, although honestly I'd much rather have an RTX card, plus I can't even find anyone who'd build my PC for me in the UK (only custom retailers who you buy from and then they build it). So I think CCL are probably the best I can get.
There is plenty of them in any country who can build for you. You just need to look harder. Between, heres your modified list...
